The idea for Beacon Number came when a mother asked her daughter how many phone numbers the daughter knew. She was surprised to find out, only one. The mother's cell phone. This struck her as very concerning, since if she were ever hurt, incapacitated, or for any other reason unreachable, her daughter would be stranded. There would be no way for a coach, other mother taking the girls on a play date, or god forbid a first responder, to be able to get in touch with someone who could bring her daughter to safety.
That woman was Kathy Presta. Luckily for her, she was able to do something about it. Over the last 15 years both her and her husband had owned several successful companies in both the technology and telephony industry.
She enlisted the help of their partner from other related business that they owned together, Kris Droge. He is the telephone and software engineer that brought to life the vision that Kathy had created that day.
That vision was to build a platform so that children could have only one number to remember, and with that single number they could be put in touch with a person who could help them.
